It started with Karen Cappetta, the founder of Angels & Cookies, who grew up in an Italian-American household and in a family passionate about food, cherishing memories of many gathered around the table; family, friends, and neighbours while her mother effortlessly prepared wonderful dishes to the delights of all.
Karen studied fashion design in Milan and New York, modelled internationally, represented leading directorial talent, wrote a children's book, The Très Rude Princess & Her Nose and even sang in a jazz band. Her love for food has now led her on another path.
It all began when a close friend of Karen's asked her to bake a free from birthday cake for her daughter who was autistic. This led Karen to explore different ingredients and various flours free from gluten and wheat. The families in her circle whose children had food allergies began asking her to bake because what was available was unpalatable and highly processed. Karen understood the daily battle moms have with trying to keep their kids' lives as normal as possible while keeping them safe and protecting them from harmful allergens. She began to explore how to convert everyone's favourite desserts to a plant based Free From equivalent so that no one could tell the difference.
Karen's goal was to create the iconic cookie with a healthier approach for everyone and at the same time provide a fun mess free food experience for kids, moms, dads, grandparents, and just about everyone on the planet who loves freshly baked cookies straight out of the oven. Driven by this desire she launched Angels & Cookies in 2016 which is the culmination of a lifelong passion for Free From baking and years of perfecting recipes for those children and adults. Her Chunky Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough won a Bronze Award at the Free From Food Awards for No Top 14 Allergens sponsored by the Anaphylaxis Campaign in 2018.
Karen actively studies nutrition, yoga, herbalism, and embraces holistic living. Her life is committed to learning and experiencing happiness in all that she creates and this happiness can be tasted in every tub of Angels & Cookies cookie dough.
